How the Calculation Works
The same arithmetic you would do on a brew sheet, shown step by step.
- Convert your batch to US gallons. 1 BBL = 31 US gallons.
- Convert the dosage to lbs per gallon. lbs per BBL ÷ 31 = lbs per gallon (e.g. 46.5 lbs/BBL = 1.5 lb/gal).
- Puree weight (lbs) = gallons × lbs per gallon.
- Boxes needed = puree lbs ÷ 44.1, rounded up to whole boxes, with the leftover shown so you can plan the opened box (refrigerate at 32°–40°F and use within 72 hours).
- Gravity added. Fruit sugar = puree weight × Brix ÷ 100 (spec minimum 16.0 °Bx; reference lot 17.9 °Bx). Gravity points = fruit sugar per litre of beer × 384; added SG = points ÷ 1,000, added °Plato ≈ points ÷ 4.
